Welcome to the Chelsea Barracks Partnership website.

The Partnership has been working with the local community through independent consultation agency ‘Soundings’, since September 2009 to ensure high levels of engagement with, input to, and support for the emerging masterplan. The consultation feedback is helping to inform the new Masterplan approach which respects the traditions, culture and diversity of this historic area of London, reflecting its surroundings and which is intended to deliver an attractive public realm setting.

The design process has focused on a Masterplanning approach as the size, location and historic context of the site requires a plan that envisages the highest quality of streets, squares, gardens and buildings.

Good urban design principles

The Masterplan will focus on good urban design principles. Detailed plans and elevations of buildings are not appropriate at this stage - these will follow later. However, sufficient information will be presented to fully describe the layout, size and height of buildings, their uses and the streets and public spaces that will surround them. The Masterplanning team will also define ‘design codes’ which will help to guide detailed design at a later stage.

The masterplan will be developed between now and the summer of 2010, when it is anticipated that an Outline Planning Application will be submitted to Westminster City Council.

Masterplanning team appointed

The masterplanning team of Dixon Jones, Squire and Partners and Kim Wilkie Associates was appointed at the end of 2009 and has been working on the masterplan’s production since January, 2010. The team have been informed by the initial consultation findings, numerous meetings with the Residents and Community Liaison Groups and three local public workshops in April and May. Comments on the masterplan can be made on this website in the section entitled the Masterplan Workshop under the The Masterplan tab.

The Masterplanning team are supported by a number of specialist consultants in fields such as transport, structural engineering and sustainability.
